Job Title: Food Production Cleaner / Hygiene Operative

Reports to: Production Manager / Hygiene Supervisor
Working Hours
Monday to Friday, starting at 12:00 noon and finishing between approximately 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm, depending on the production and cleaning requirements for that day.
The role will normally involve approximately 5–6 hours per day. Some flexibility may be required to ensure that all necessary cleaning is completed before leaving.
Main Purpose of the Role
To maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the food production factory, helping to ensure that all production areas, equipment and facilities comply with company food-safety procedures and BRCGS requirements.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitise food production rooms, floors, walls, drains and other designated areas.
- Clean production equipment, utensils, trays, racks and food-contact surfaces following the approved cleaning instructions.
- Complete cleaning during production where required and carry out full cleaning after production finishes.
- Use the correct colour-coded cleaning equipment for each area.
- Prepare and use cleaning chemicals at the correct concentration and in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
- Follow all chemical-safety, COSHH and safe-handling requirements.
- Ensure food and packaging materials are protected or removed before cleaning begins.
- Prevent cross-contamination between food-contact, non-food-contact and waste areas.
- Empty waste bins and remove waste to the designated disposal area.
- Clean staff welfare areas, including changing areas, toilets and handwashing facilities.
- Refill soap, hand sanitiser, paper towels and blue-roll dispensers when required.
- Inspect cleaned areas and report any remaining dirt, damage, pest activity, foreign-body risks or maintenance concerns.
- Complete and sign all required cleaning schedules and hygiene records accurately.
- Store cleaning equipment and chemicals safely after use.
- Follow the site allergen controls and any specific cleaning requirements following allergen production.
- Wear the required protective clothing and personal protective equipment.
- Follow all company hygiene, food-safety, health-and-safety and security procedures.
- Carry out other reasonable cleaning duties requested by the Production Manager.
Food Hygiene Requirements
The employee must:
- Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene.
- Wash and sanitise hands as instructed.
- Wear clean company-issued protective clothing.
- Not wear jewellery, false nails, nail varnish, false eyelashes or other prohibited items in production areas.
- Cover cuts and wounds with company-issued blue detectable dressings.
- Report illness, sickness, diarrhoea, skin conditions or infected wounds before starting work.
- Never clean operating machinery unless specifically trained and authorised.
- Never mix cleaning chemicals.
- Follow the site’s chemical dilution and safety instructions at all times.
Skills and Experience
Previous cleaning experience is desirable, particularly within a food-production environment, but training will be provided.

- Willing to complete cleaning and food-hygiene training.

- Flexible regarding the finishing time when additional cleaning is required.
Physical Requirements
The role involves standing, walking, bending, reaching and carrying cleaning equipment. The employee must be able to perform the normal physical duties of the position safely and must inform management if any reasonable workplace adjustments are required.
Training Provided
Training will include:
- Site induction.
- Food hygiene and personal hygiene.
- Cleaning and sanitation procedures.
- Colour-coded cleaning equipment.
- Safe use of chemicals and COSHH awareness.
- Allergen and cross-contamination controls.
- Waste handling.
- Health and safety.
- Completion of cleaning records.
Pay: £12.71-£13.00 per hour
