We are seeking a motivated, adaptable, and professional Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing Engineering team. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality structural engineering services, managing projects within your delegated authority, and providing technical guidance, training, and supervision to junior engineers. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of projects for nationally recognised clients while contributing to the continued success and growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed structural designs and calculations using industry-standard software including TEDDS, CADS 3D and SCIA, together with hand calculations where appropriate.
- Undertake technical and feasibility studies, including the planning, coordination and review of site investigations.
- Liaise effectively with clients, contractors, architects and other project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, contract documentation and tender submissions.
- Provide technical advice and support to clients, responding to engineering queries and identifying practical solutions.
- Prepare Planning and Building Regulations submissions and secure the necessary approvals.
- Undertake site inspections and monitor construction works, resolving technical issues and ensuring compliance with design intent.
- Manage project budgets, resources and programme delivery.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards, including CDM 2015 requirements.
- Consider sustainability, environmental impact and whole-life performance within engineering solutions.
- Lead the delivery of complex and high-value projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams where required.
- Support business development activities and actively promote the company’s services to existing and prospective clients.
- Assist senior management with the training, mentoring and development of engineering staff, including supervision of graduate engineers.
- Undertake contract administration duties, including valuations, interim and final accounts, practical completion and defects management.
Person Specification
Essential
- BEng (Hons) in Structural Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Chartered Engineer status (IStructE or ICE) or actively working towards chartership.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in structural engineering consultancy, design and project delivery.
- Strong understanding of current design standards, statutory requirements and technical guidance.
- Proven experience leading projects and supervising technical teams.
- Demonstrable ability to deliver projects to programme and budget.
- Excellent numerical, analytical and IT skills.
- Strong problem-solving ability with a practical and methodical approach.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
Desirable
- Experience working within heavy industrial environments, manufacturing facilities or major infrastructure projects.
- Experience supervising construction works on site.
- Master's degree in Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
- Knowledge and practical experience of JCT and NEC3/NEC4 contracts.
- Experience working with major industrial, utility, healthcare or education sector clients.
