Job Description
Data Team Leader – Water Quality – Leeds
Are you experienced in data management, environmental monitoring, or water quality systems? This could be your opportunity to take the next step as a Data Team Leader, supporting the delivery of high-quality water quality monitoring across SOCOTEC’s Monitoring & Surveying Division.
As SOCOTEC grows, we’re looking for a motivated and organised Data Team Leader to oversee our Water Quality data team, ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable monitoring outputs across multiple projects and locations.
The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):
- Overseeing daily water quality data reporting from instrumentation including sondes, river flow monitors, and rain gauges
- Coordinating and managing an offshore (Vietnam-based) team carrying out overnight site checks and maintenance verification
- Ensuring all sites are checked daily and any data issues, anomalies, or equipment faults are escalated promptly
- Monitoring performance against the 72-hour maintenance KPI and escalating issues where required
- Supporting Data Analysts to deliver accurate, timely, and high-quality outputs
- Ensuring customer SLAs and internal KPIs are consistently met
- Producing water quality reports to client and regulatory specifications
- Supporting training, coaching, and development of team members
- Driving continuous improvement in processes, productivity, and data quality
- Liaising with Project Managers, clients, and operational teams to resolve queries efficiently
- Maintaining team motivation and performance across a geographically dispersed workforce
Qualifications
To be a successful Data Team Leader, you should be able to demonstrate:
- Experience in water quality monitoring, telemetry systems, or environmental data management
- Strong understanding of water quality parameters and regulatory requirements
- Ability to manage or coordinate teams, including remote or offshore teams
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across all levels and locations
- High attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Proficiency or familiarity with data platforms such as Blue Trust Monitoring and HydroSphere (desirable)
- Knowledge of water industry instrumentation (e.g. sondes, AquaHawk systems) (desirable)
