Commis Chef Position – Japanese Restaurant “AKIRA” (Central London)
Located in central London, AKIRA is a Japanese restaurant seeking a Commis Chef to support kitchen operations, including assistance with dessert preparation.
Under the guidance of Executive Chef Haru Yamashita, this role offers an excellent opportunity to develop culinary skills in a professional environment. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with general kitchen operations
- Support food preparation (mise en place)
- Assist with food plating and service
- Support the preparation of seasonal menus
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene standards, and proper food storage
- Perform Kitchen Porter (KP) duties as required
- Assist with presentation and plating
- Learn Japanese-style plating based on aesthetic principles
Requirements
- Previous kitchen experience is preferred (motivated beginners are also welcome)
- Basic culinary knowledge is advantageous
- Interest in Japanese cuisine, seasonal ingredients, and food culture
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Flexibility with shift changes
- Candidates holding a valid UK work visa are preferred

Working Conditions
- Location: High Street Kensington, London
- Employment Type: Part-time (subject to review after a 3-month probation period)
- Shift Pattern:
- Tuesday to Saturday: 10:00 – 23:00
- Sunday: 10:00 – 18:00
- Monday: Closed
- Hourly Rate: Competitive, based on experience
