This Natural England funded part-time post (0.5 FTE) is immediately available until 31 March 2029.
This post is offered as a fixed term contract and is funded by Natural England until 31 March 2029. In line with the University’s fair employment for all principles, any further funding opportunities identified will be reviewed and discussed during the contract.
The starting salary will be £43,482 (pro rata) at Grade F, depending on skills, knowledge and experience.

The Role
Faculty of Health and Life Sciences
The Faculty wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in the population genetic analysis of Atlantic salmon smolts and offspring as part of the analysis of the effectiveness of smolt to adult supplementation. The successful applicant will undertake genotyping of Atlantic salmon tissue samples using a Fluidigm EP1 SNP genotyping system, including analysis of raw SNP reads and subsequent downstream population genetic analysis.
The post will include sample collection, sample curation, DNA extraction, DNA quality assessment, SNP genotyping using a Fluidigm EP1 system, analysis of raw data and all downstream population genetic analysis of the data.
About You
Postdoctoral Research Fellow: The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in salmonid population genetic analysis and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will possess a relevant PhD and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to demonstrate experience of basic molecular biology laboratory skills, SNP genotyping of salmonid fishes, use of the Fluidigm EP1 SNP genotyping platform.
