Overview
We are seeking a casual cook/cleaner a key figure in the success and happiness of a house dedicated to retired people offering independent living in central Chichester.
To create and sustain a family atmosphere in a homely and happy Abbeyfield House, respecting the residents as individuals, and respecting their independence.
To comply with Food Hygiene and Health & Safety Regulations
Ensure there us adequate first aid provision within your area of control.
To institute and maintain a healthy diet for all residents, taking into account particular dietary needs.
To keep the General Manager informed of any issues that may adversely affect the smooth running of the house.
To withhold a duty of care to eliminate safety risks and to report any internal or external hazards or safety defects to the General Manager or Committee for action.
Give residents a ‘wake up’ visit each morning
To prepare and cook two meals a day, and supply the ingredients for breakfasts, which residents take in their rooms.
To order provisions and goods for the house, within budget, and regularly account for expenditure to General Manager
Ensure that domestic staff keep the communal parts of the house (including toilets) clean and tidy. Some domestic duties are required such a hoovering, dusting, laundry etc.
To keep simple household accounts and records as follows
Accounts book
A menu book (with temperatures of cooked meats, freezers and fridges recorded).
To give occasional simple nursing, as needed in any family, at times of emergency or short-term illness and with the direction of the GP or community nurse. You must not dispense medicine to residents. Residents may need advice and support to use externally provided domiciliary care service.
To initiate medical help when necessary, keeping General Manager and resident’s relatives informed. To liaise with medical staff over hospital admission and discharge and to keep in touch with residents in hospital
Engage professional assistance if required. i.e. plumber, electrician
Hours of work 8.30am-1.30pm & 4.30-6.30pm
Qualifications
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Food prep and cooking experiance is required
