What are we looking for?
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Assistant Warehouse Manager to support the Operation Manager in the day-to-day operation of our lithium battery recycling facility.
The successful candidate will assist in supervising warehouse staff, managing operational workflows, ensuring compliance with Environmental Agency regulations, ADR requirements and company procedures, while maintaining high standards of safety, quality and operational efficiency.
The role requires a hands-on leader who can motivate the warehouse team, oversee battery handling activities and deputise for the Warehouse Manager when required.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Operation Manager in the daily management of warehouse and battery treatment operations.
- Supervise warehouse operatives and allocate workloads to achieve operational targets.
- Oversee the safe receipt, inspection, segregation, storage and dispatch of lithium batteries.
- Ensure batteries are correctly classified as portable, industrial or automotive where applicable.
- Monitor the safe handling of damaged, defective or recalled lithium batteries.
- Ensure all battery storage complies with company procedures, Environment Agency permit conditions and fire prevention measures.
- Support stock control and maintain accurate inventory records.
- Ensure warehouse documentation, waste transfer documentation and stock records are completed accurately.
- Monitor compliance with ADR requirements for battery packaging, labelling and transport.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards throughout the warehouse.
- Ensure all warehouse equipment is inspected and operated safely.
- Carry out regular warehouse inspections and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Train and support warehouse staff in safe battery handling procedures.
- Promote a strong health, safety and environmental culture.
- Liaise with Compliance, Logistics and Operations teams to ensure efficient workflow.
- Assist with operational reporting, KPI monitoring and warehouse performance.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in a warehouse supervisory or assistant management role.
- Experience within recycling, waste management, logistics or hazardous goods operations.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Good organisational and planning ability.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workloads.
- Good understanding of warehouse health and safety practices.
Desirable
- Experience handling lithium batteries or hazardous materials.
- Knowledge of ADR requirements.
- Understanding of Environment Agency waste regulations.
- Forklift Truck Licence (Counterbalance).
- Experience within the battery recycling or environmental sector.
- First Aid or Fire Marshal qualification.

Job Details:
Working Hours: Monday – Friday 09:30 - 17:00pm (35 hours per week ; Flexibility may be required to meet operational demands.)
