We have experienced and qualified occupational hygienists who have in combination over a hundred and fifty years of experience in delivering solutions for exposure to hazardous substances, workplace noise exposure, local exhaust ventilation, vibration assessments and other Occupational Hygiene services to a broad range of clients throughout the UK, Europe, The Middle East and Africa.
We are looking for a motivated and hands-on Trainee Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) Technician to join our growing engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity to begin a career in ventilation engineering, workplace safety, and environmental compliance while gaining practical experience and recognised industry training.
As a Trainee, you will work alongside experienced LEV engineers and technicians to learn how to inspect, test, maintain, and support the installation of Local Exhaust Ventilation systems used to control dust, fumes, vapours, and hazardous airborne substances in workplaces. LEV technicians commonly work with systems supporting compliance under UK Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations and industry guidance such as HSG258 which is regulated by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in the UK.
Working as a Trainee LEV Technician, ECL will support and mentor you in order to gain your professional certificates awarded by the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) which is the leading body that develops and awards the recognised LEV qualifications such as P600, P601 (Thorough Examination and Testing), P602 (Design) and P604 ( Commissioning and Management). These qualifications are widely recognised by the HSE and industry in the UK.
This role will involve being based working from home, ideally being based in the Southwest region of England, initially travelling to a client’s site to undertake LEV testing and reporting for a minimum period of 6 months. After 6 months it is anticipated, the role will require travelling to clients’ sites across the UK, to undertake not just testing but potentially service and maintenance of LEV systems.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with inspection, testing, servicing, and maintenance of LEV systems
- Support experienced technicians during site visits and customer inspections
- Learn how to carry out airflow measurements, fault finding, and performance checks
- Help produce technical reports and maintenance documentation
- Learn to understand engineering drawings, ventilation systems, and safety procedures
- Travel to customer sites across different industries including manufacturing, engineering, laboratories, education, and commercial workplaces where LEV systems are used.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Strong interest in engineering, mechanics, ventilation, or technical work
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Good communication and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working in a practical, hands-on environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic IT skills for reporting and record keeping
- Full UK driving licence (or willingness to obtain one if appropriate for age). Entry-level LEV and trainee roles frequently involve travel to customer sites.
Desirable
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths, English, and Science/Engineering
- Interest in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or maintenance engineering
- Experience using tools or completing practical projects
