Job Title: Court of Protection (CoP DoL) Worker
Salary: £42,839 to £44,075 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: Carlisle or Workington
Contract: Permanent
Purpose of the role
The role focuses on community deprivation of liberty matters requiring Court of Protection authorisation – applicable to settings such as Supported Living, Shared Lives, Extra Care Housing and domestic settings.
Please note this is not to be confused with a Best Interests Assessor post under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguard regime.
This role will include:
- Undertaking complex mental capacity and best interests work,
- Identifying and analysing restrictive care arrangements,
- Preparing evidence and assessments to support Court of Protection applications,
- Working collaboratively with legal services, providers, families and partner agencies,
- Supporting care planning, which is lawful, proportionate and least restrictive – particularly in light of the recent Supreme Court ruling (AGNI).
- Contributing to reviews of authorised arrangements and changes in circumstances.
The postholder will need to demonstrate strong analytical practice, confident recording and report-writing skills, and an ability to balance rights, risk and proportionality within complex care arrangements.
Please note that whilst the post holder will be based in Adult Services, applications to the Court of Protection may include individuals who are 16 or 17 years of age.
