Overview
We are seeking skilled and dedicated Steel Fixers with National Grid Passport to join our team on critical substation projects. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately installing and securing reinforced steel structures that form the backbone of electrical substations. Your expertise will ensure the structural integrity and safety of high-voltage infrastructure, contributing to reliable energy delivery. Responsibilities
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications related to steel reinforcement for substations
- Measure, cut, bend, and assemble steel reinforcement bars using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment
- Securely position and tie rebar cages according to project plans, ensuring proper alignment and spacing
- Collaborate with other construction trades such as carpenters, masons, and roofing specialists to coordinate installation activities
- Conduct inspections of installed steel structures for quality control and compliance with safety standards
- Operate heavy lifting equipment safely to transport steel components around the site
- Maintain a clean and organized work area while adhering to all safety protocols throughout the project lifecycle
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Steel Fixer or similar role within construction or electrical substation projects
- National Grid Passport is mandatory
- Proficiency in welding techniques, hand tools, power tools, and mechanical assembly methods
- Strong mechanical knowledge including understanding of reinforcement placement and structural requirements
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently in a demanding environment
- Basic carpentry, masonry, roofing, or related construction skills are advantageous
- Excellent attention to detail with a focus on safety standards and quality assurance
