The Role
This opportunity suits a strong leader with experience in children’s residential care, safeguarding, compliance, staff development, and therapeutic care. The role requires someone who is resilient, organised, child-focused, and committed to maintaining high standards across the service.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Lead the day-to-day running of the children’s home
- Create a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment
- Develop, motivate, and support the staff team
- Promote high standards of childcare practice
- Manage staffing, rotas, recruitment, inductions, and supervisions
- Drive continuous improvement across the home
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with:
- Children’s Homes Regulations
- Quality Standards
- Ofsted requirements
- Safeguarding legislation
- Oversee Regulation 44 & Regulation 45 processes
- Monitor incidents, restraints, medication, missing episodes, complaints, and risk assessments
- Maintain accurate and compliant records and reporting systems
- Prepare and lead the home through Ofsted inspections
Child-Centred Care
- Ensure children receive high-quality, individualised care
- Promote education, independence, emotional wellbeing, and life skills
- Support positive family relationships and community integration
- Ensure care plans and placement plans are effectively implemented
- Encourage children and young people to actively participate in the home
Multi-Agency Working
- Build strong relationships with:
- Social Workers
- Schools
- Healthcare Professionals
- Families
- Ofsted
- External Agencies
- Represent the organisation professionally at all times
Essential Requirements
✔ Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management (or willing to work towards)
✔ Experience within Children’s Residential Care
✔ Strong understanding of safeguarding and Ofsted regulations
✔ Leadership and team management experience
✔ Excellent communication and organisational skills
✔ Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable Skills & Experience
✔ Experience managing Ofsted inspections
✔ Knowledge of therapeutic or trauma-informed practice
✔ Experience within EBD residential settings
