We are seeking an experienced and industry-current Technical Theatre professional to join our Performing Arts team. The successful candidate will teach, mentor, and inspire students across a range of technical theatre disciplines, including lighting, sound, stage management, rigging, and live event production.
The role combines practical workshop delivery with academic teaching, ensuring students develop the technical knowledge, and employment within the creative industries. The postholder will lead students through the planning, preparation, and delivery of productions and live events while maintaining the highest standards of health and safety and industry practice.
Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, industry-focused lessons in Technical Theatre, covering areas such as stage lighting, live sound, rigging, stage management, production management, and backstage operations.
- Develop and maintain schemes of work, lesson plans, learning materials, and practical projects that reflect current industry standards and technologies.
- Teach students the safe and effective use of technical theatre equipment, including lighting systems, digital sound consoles, AV equipment, staging, and rigging systems.
- Train and support students in key technical theatre skills, including programming lighting desks, operating sound systems, interpreting technical documentation, production planning, and backstage management.
- Lead and supervise students in the preparation, technical rehearsal, and delivery of performances, showcases, and live events.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to students undertaking technical roles, fostering professional behaviours and industry-standard working practices.
- Manage and coordinate the technical aspects of productions, including lighting, sound, staging, rigging, and health and safety requirements.
- Ensure all practical activities, rehearsals, and performances are conducted safely and in accordance with relevant legislation and organisational policies.
- Maintain theatre facilities, workshops, and performance spaces, ensuring equipment is serviced, safe, and fit for purpose.
- Manage and monitor inventories of technical equipment, consumables, and resources.
- Keep abreast of developments in theatre technology, live events, and industry best practice, embedding these into teaching and production activities.
Essential Requirements

Significant industry experience in Technical Theatre, Live Events, Production Technology, or a related field.
- Demonstrable expertise in theatre lighting, sound reinforcement, rigging, and backstage production processes.
- Experience planning and delivering productions, performances, or live events from concept through to delivery.
- Ability to teach, train, coach, or mentor learners in practical technical theatre skills.
- Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent knowledge of health and safety practices within theatre and live production environments.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students while maintaining high expectations and professional standards.
- Commitment to supporting learners in developing the skills, knowledge, and behaviours required for progression into higher education and the creative industries.
