Alrewas Surgery are looking to recruit a part-time Medical Receptionist to come and join our Practice Team at our busy GP Surgery.
Previous experience of working in General Practice would be an advantage but this is not essential as training would be provided.

Main duties of the job
Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient, effective and confidential way.
Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone.
Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice.
The role will require both a 7.45 am start and/or a 6.45pm finish on some days.

GP Surgery Receptionist
Location: Alrewas Surgery, Exchange Road, Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, DE13 7AS
Brief description
· Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient, effective and confidential way
· Provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone
Main Duties and Responsibilities
· Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the practice
· Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments
· Using your own judgement and communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner
· Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, including patients from abroad and ensure procedures are completed
· Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt delivery
· Enter requests for home visits, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and prepare paper records for home visits
· Action prescription requests in line with practice policy accurately and timely e.g. ready for collection within 48 hours
· Advise patients of relevant charges for private (non General Medical) services, accept payment and issue receipts
· Enter patient information onto the computer as required
· Assist with the maintenance of accurate, up-to-date and relevant patient notes and medical records
· Open and secure premises at the start and end of the working day, de-activate alarm and make necessary preparations to receive patients
· Support the development and apply practice policies, standards and guidelines
· Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the Partners or the Practice Management Team

In the performance of their duties receptionists may have access to sensitive and confidential information relating to patients and carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers or the practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential.

Experience
Essential criteria
We understand some candidates will not have relevant experience but we are willing to train the right person for this role.
Desirable criteria
Experience of working in a GP practice would be desirable, but not essential.
