Job Overview:
We are seeking reliable and motivated Casual Grounds Staff to join our team at Sedgefield Racecourse. As part of our groundskeeping team, you will play a key role in maintaining the racecourse and surrounding areas, ensuring a safe, clean, and well-kept environment for both horses and visitors. The ideal candidate will be physically fit, detail-oriented, and comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
Race Day
- Assist in the setup and dismantling of race day equipment including temporary barriers, signage, fencing, and crowd control structures.
- Serve as Fence Attendants, ensuring fences and hurdles are secure and safe for use prior to each race.
- Replace hurdles or adjust fence positioning as required during and between races under the direction of the Clerk of the Course or Supervisor.
- Participate in treading-in the track post-race to repair divots and maintain turf quality.
- Maintain cleanliness and presentability of public and operational areas throughout race day.
Track Surface Management
- Support in repairing and maintaining the racing surface (grass and other materials), ensuring it is in optimal condition for racing.
- Monitor condition of the track and assist with immediate race day repairs or adjustments.
Additional Duties & Opportunities
- Casual Grounds Staff may be offered additional shifts for midweek preparations, event builds, or post-event breakdowns depending on availability and operational needs.
- Flexibility to assist with non-raceday events and general site duties is desirable.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience in groundskeeping, maintenance, or outdoor work is an advantage but not essential.
- Strong work ethic and a proactive attitude towards tasks.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Good physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour tasks.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
