Sous Chef – The Atrium, Aberdeen
Salary: £34,000–£36,000 per year
Full-time, permanent, 45 hour week
The Atrium is a family-run independent restaurant in the heart of Aberdeen, focused on serving modern Scottish food using fresh, quality ingredients.
Our menus are built around well-cooked, familiar dishes with a strong Scottish influence, using fresh produce and seasonal ingredients wherever possible. We pride ourselves on creating a relaxed, welcoming restaurant with high standards of food and hospitality, without the feel of a large corporate operation.
We have built a loyal customer base around our à la carte menu, seasonal dishes and popular Sunday roasts, and we are now looking for an experienced Sous Chef to join our kitchen team and help us continue to develop the food offering.
The Role
Working closely with the Head Chef, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the kitchen, helping to maintain high standards across every service and supporting the wider kitchen team.
As Sous Chef, you will:
- Support the Head Chef with the day-to-day running of the kitchen
- Take responsibility for the kitchen and service in the Head Chef’s absence
- Ensure dishes are prepared, cooked and presented consistently to a high standard
- Help lead, train and motivate the kitchen team
- Maintain strong standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and organisation
- Assist with ordering, stock control, food rotation and kitchen organisation
- Help manage food costs, portion control and wastage
- Ensure prep is completed and the kitchen is fully ready for service
- Work closely with the front-of-house management team to deliver smooth services
- Contribute ideas towards menus, specials and seasonal dishes
- Help create a positive, professional kitchen where people enjoy working
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who:

- Is confident running a service and leading a kitchen team

- Has a strong understanding of food safety and kitchen compliance
- Can remain organised and calm during busy services
- Understands food cost, portion control and the importance of reducing waste
- Is reliable, hardworking and comfortable taking responsibility
- Has a genuine interest in fresh food and quality ingredients
- Enjoys working in an independent, family-run restaurant environment
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who genuinely cares about the food leaving the kitchen and wants to be part of a restaurant they can take pride in.
