Pay: £45,000–£70,000 a year
Job description:
The Glow Group is a well-established heating, cooling, and renewables installer covering Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, with a team of 21 people across engineering and office support, spanning gas, oil, LPG, heat pump, air conditioning, electrical, and plumbing disciplines. We hold Gas Safe, OFTEC, NICEIC, MCS, CHAS, and F-Gas accreditations, and we're growing.
A note on pay: the salary range above reflects a basic salary of £45,000–£50,000, set according to your demonstrable experience delivering sales results within this field, plus a performance bonus of up to £10,000 at on-target performance and up to £20,000 for top performers. In practice, this means realistic on-target total earnings of £55,000–£60,000 depending on your starting salary, with a genuine path to £70,000 for strong performers regardless of where your base sits. The bonus is based on live, trackable monthly figures — installs won, quote margin, and quote quality — not vague discretion, so you'll always know exactly what you're being measured against and what you've earned. As in any role, we'd expect performance in line with reasonable, agreed minimums, and this would be managed through our normal performance process if it fell short — but the base salary itself isn't at risk or performance-contingent. Full detail is shared at interview stage.
This is a field-based role, and you'll need to live within 45 minutes of our head office (LN6 9WG). Day to day, your survey territory extends further — typically up to 60–90 minutes from the office — though we try to plan surveys in the same area where possible to minimise travel, and there are never any overnight stays. Surveys are planned within core working hours with travel time factored in, and we typically aim for around 4 surveys a day. Admin time is managed flexibly around this — some weeks you'll need little to none, having quoted jobs on-site, while others (particularly larger or more complex projects) will need more.
A company van (business use), mobile phone, and laptop are provided, so you're fully equipped to work autonomously from day one.
We're looking for an experienced surveyor/estimator with a strong background in boiler (gas, oil, and LPG), heat pump, and air conditioning surveying, across both domestic and commercial projects. You'll be carrying out heat loss surveys and pipe design work as part of the role, so a solid technical grounding in these areas is essential — along with the ability to get into lofts and fully scope properties, so you'll need to be comfortably mobile and have a keen eye for detail. Ladders and access equipment are provided. Full training will be given across our wider product range, including underfloor heating, with direct, hands-on support from our Managing Director, Jack McGovern, who surveys three days a week himself and will work alongside you as you build up across the full range.
Beyond surveying and quoting, you'll work closely with our Field Operations Manager to make sure won quotes translate into deliverable jobs — correctly costed for materials and labour, and ready to go without surprises once work starts. On larger projects, you'll hand these over to the Field Operations Manager for delivery once the quote is won, so your focus stays on surveying and winning new work rather than managing installation day to day. You'll also liaise regularly with our installation planning team to keep booked work flowing smoothly from quote to completion.
This is a role where being comfortable with technology matters — you'll be working across our job management and CRM systems daily, on the laptop and mobile provided, and confidence picking up new tools quickly will make a real difference to how well you settle in.
Core hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00 — genuinely family-friendly compared to most trades roles. We do need occasional flexibility around this — shifting your working hours to fit around a customer appointment, or responding to a message outside normal hours when something needs a same-day answer — but this is about reasonable give-and-take, not routinely asking more than is fair. It's balanced by the same flexibility working the other way when things are quieter. Saturday work is also available and separately rewarded for anyone who wants the extra earning opportunity, but it's entirely optional, not a requirement of the role.
There's a 3-month probation period, with a supported ramp-up broadly aligned to it — we don't expect full performance from day one, and some self-directed learning during this time will help you get there, though our capacity to support beyond this is naturally limited. After probation, we'd expect a capable performer to be operating at full speed.
What we're looking for:
- Proven, demonstrable experience delivering sales results within boiler, heat pump, and air conditioning surveying and quoting
- Experience across both domestic and commercial projects
- Confidence carrying out heat loss surveys and pipe design
- Confidence pricing complex, multi-option jobs and explaining technical detail to customers in plain terms
- Comfortable working across job management and CRM software, and quick to pick up new systems
- Full UK driving licence — no drink-driving convictions; minor points within legal limits are fine
- Must live within 45 minutes of Lincoln (LN6 9WG)
- Able to work in lofts and other tight access areas, with good attention to detail
- Self-motivated, organised, and able to manage your own diary and travel independently
- A genuine interest in getting the technical detail right, not just closing the sale
- Willingness to learn underfloor heating quoting — full training and ongoing support provided
- Right to work in the UK
What we offer:
- £45,000–£50,000 basic salary, based on demonstrable experience, with performance expectations managed through our standard process like any role
- Company van (business use), mobile phone, and laptop provided
- Fully trackable, transparent performance bonus of up to £10,000 at on-target performance and up to £20,000 for top performers
- Statutory holiday plus an extra day of annual leave for each year of service
- Pension through NEST
- Direct mentoring and shared workload with our Managing Director, who surveys alongside you three days a week
- Support handing over larger projects to our Field Operations Manager once won, keeping your focus on surveying and quoting
- Optional Saturday availability, separately and fairly rewarded
- Full support from our Field Operations Manager, installation planning team, and technical office — you won't be doing this alone
