About the Role We’re looking for a skilled floor fitter to join our team, with strong all-round experience across domestic and light commercial projects. You’ll install a variety of floor coverings to a high standard, with a particular focus on Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT), including herringbone/parquet layouts.
Key Responsibilities
- Install LVT (glue-down and click), including herringbone and parquet patterns
- Fit carpets (stretch-fit, double-stick, stairs/landings, thresholds)
- Install solid/engineered wood and laminate, including underlay and trims
- Subfloor preparation: moisture testing, latex/compound screeding, levelling, ply boarding
- Accurate measuring, setting out, and cutting with excellent attention to detail
- Finishing to a high standard: trims, door bars, scotias, sealants
- Maintain a clean, safe work area and deliver outstanding customer service
- Travel across St Albans and nearby towns/villages as scheduled
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as a floor fitter (3+ years preferred)
- Strong competency with LVT, especially herringbone installations
- Confident with carpets, wood, and laminate
- Excellent hand tool skills and safe use of power tools
- Solid knowledge of subfloor prep, adhesives, and moisture control
- Ability to read plans, take accurate measurements, and work to tight tolerances
- Full UK driving licence and reliable transport
Desirable
- NVQ or equivalent in floorcovering installation
- CSCS card
- Experience in commercial settings and with stair nosings/feature borders
- Asbestos awareness and up-to-date H&S training
