Fersands & Fountain SCIO is recruiting a Community Café Manager to lead our busy, friendly community café. This role replaces our previous Café Manager position and will operate as part of a job‑share, ensuring smooth, consistent café operations across the week.
You’ll be supported by our Senior Community Worker, who will assist with compliance, paperwork, training, promotion of the café, and the recruitment and support of volunteers. You will also work alongside a Café Assistant (12 hours per week) who covers the fifth café day and provides flexible support. Aswell as a small pool of volunteers.
We’re looking for someone who is confident in the kitchen, enjoys working with volunteers, and takes pride in providing warm, affordable food for local families and nursery children.
Key Responsibilities
- Food preparation — Cook daily breakfasts (full breakfasts, filled rolls), lunches (jacket potatoes, toasties, daily specials) and prepare nursery meals (approx. 6 portions per day).
- Kitchen operations — Keep the kitchen clean, safe, and well organised throughout service.
- Food purchasing — Complete weekly food shopping (2 paid hours + fuel allowance).
- Customer service — Serve customers with warmth, efficiency, and a community‑focused approach.
- Staff & volunteer management — Support, guide, and coordinate the Café Assistant and volunteers.
- Compliance & hygiene — Ensure all food safety and hygiene procedures are followed and required paperwork is completed.
- Day‑to‑day running — Lead daily café operations and maintain smooth service across your four working days.
- Promotion & community engagement — Work with the Senior Community Worker to promote the café across social media and community channels.
- Meeting & event catering — Prepare lunches for meetings, external lets, and community groups when required.
- Community events — Occasional additional hours to support evening or weekend community events.
Essential Requirements
- Level 2 or Level 3 Food Hygiene qualification
- Previous kitchen experience (community, commercial, school, nursery or similar)
- Ability to lead a small team and work independently
- Friendly, reliable, and confident working with volunteers and customers
Desirable
- Experience supervising volunteers or staff
- Knowledge of community‑based food provision
- A passion for supporting local families and creating a welcoming, inclusive space
