About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Transport Manager to lead and oversee our transport operations at our Birmingham headquarters and our sister company in Immingham, ensuring full compliance with UK transport legislation while delivering exceptional service to customers.
This is a key management position responsible for fleet performance, driver management, compliance standards, and operational efficiency.
The successful candidate will hold a valid International Transport Manager CPC qualification and have a proven track record within the road haulage and logistics sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all requirements of the Operator Licence.
- Manage and maintain compliance with DVSA regulations, Working Time Directive, Drivers' Hours, and Road Transport legislation.
- Oversee fleet maintenance programmes, MOT schedules, inspections, and defect reporting systems.
- Monitor vehicle utilisation, fuel consumption, and operational efficiency.
- Manage driver recruitment, induction, training, and performance.
- Conduct driver licence checks, tachograph analysis, and compliance audits.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and compliance breaches, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, maintenance providers, and enforcement authorities.
- Develop transport policies and procedures to support business growth and operational excellence.
- Produce management reports and KPIs relating to fleet performance, compliance, and costs.
- Support Health & Safety initiatives and ensure adherence to company policies and ISO standards where applicable.
Essential Requirements
- International Transport Manager CPC qualification.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a Transport Manager or Senior Transport Operations role.
- Excellent knowledge of:
- Operator Licensing
- DVSA compliance requirements
- Drivers' Hours Regulations
- Working Time Directive
- Tachograph legislation
- Vehicle maintenance compliance systems
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Experience managing HGV fleets and transport planning functions.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and transport management systems.
Desirable Qualifications
- IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH qualification.
- Knowledge of customs procedures and international transport operations.
- Experience with telematics and fleet management software.
