The Opportunity
Responsible for all analytical activities relating to Quality Control, including but not limited to; routine release analysis of intermediate samples (bulks) for finished product, stability studies and process validation analysis, ensuring all areas are executed within a timely manner.
Provides leadership to the quality control dept at Dechra Manufacturing Skipton. Reporting into the Head of Quality you will further establish culture and practices consistent with cGMP, cGLP and Health & Safety compliance; whist attaining the required throughput. Analyse/trend data, assess information and generate reports/metrics in order to provide accurate and appropriate responses and to identify potential risks and gaps.
So, what will you be doing? This role has a broad and varied remit and the successful candidate will have responsibility for duties including:
- Day to day management of QC dept.
- Responsible for setting, controlling and managing the QC departmental budget.
- Overall responsible for a dept. of approximately 40 individuals.
- Tracking of agreed KPI’s, preparation of reports on agreed performance criteria for the QC department, along with the preparation of Ad hoc reports as required to senior management and across site.
- Effective communication with other departments on progress of QC activities.
- Support managers with Out of Specification (OOS) and Out of Expectation (OOE) investigations by applying initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Review, manage and optimise the performance of staff and resources.
- Quality Control fulfilling the requirements and responsibilities of this role as described in the EU GMP guidelines.
- Ensure Quality Control activities are performed consistently, on time and in accordance with both company and legal requirements.
- Support the hosting of external audits and inspections at the manufacturing site and assisting in managing responses to any deficiencies observed within the QC dept.
- Review non-compliances, deviations and complaints and support the QP in making the appropriate product quality decisions
- Ensure all timelines within the Quality Control Laboratories are met
- Support delivery of site and departmental objectives
- Responsible for the development of all QC departmental staff. Including PDP’s and the reviewing of these throughout the year.

- Comply with GMP, GLP and Health & Safety standards at all times

- In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the jobholder is required to perform other duties assigned upon completion of relevant training.

- Significant relevant management experience in a Pharmaceutical GMP QC laboratory.
- Knowledge of chemical and physical analysis techniques; Wet chemical techniques, water determination Karl Fischer, TOC, physical and general wet chemistry techniques, Chromatographic techniques. Ideally a knowledge of microbiological testing.
- Knowledge of environmental, health and safety, GMP, GLP and company regulations
Computer literate.
- HNC/D in a Science subject, or, BSc Degree or equivalent in a Science discipline.

- Good problem-solving ability
- Strong attention to detail
