Substance Misuse Nurse

Seven Resourcing is recruiting an experienced Substance Misuse Nurse to join a specialist community service in Norwich on a 3-month full-time contract.
This role is ideal for an experienced Registered Nurse with a strong background in drug and alcohol services, particularly alcohol assessments, community detoxification, phlebotomy, and vaccination programmes. Due to the nature of the role, a full UK driving licence is essential, as travel between sites across Norfolk may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out comprehensive physical and mental health assessments for individuals accessing the service.
- Complete specialist alcohol assessments to determine suitability for community detoxification.
- Deliver safe and effective alcohol and opiate detoxification programmes within the community.
- Undertake phlebotomy and interpret blood test results to support clinical decision-making.
- Administer Hepatitis B vaccinations and support blood borne virus (BBV) screening programmes.
- Deliver harm reduction advice, health promotion, and education to service users.
- Support opioid substitution therapy (OST) titration and monitor treatment progress.
- Conduct wound assessments and provide basic wound care where appropriate.
- Develop personalised recovery and care plans in partnership with service users.
- Complete risk assessments and contribute to effective risk management plans.
- Work collaboratively with GPs, hospitals, pharmacies, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and ensure compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
- Support the delivery of Naloxone programmes and provide education on overdose prevention.
- Contribute to service development, clinical governance, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
Applicant Requirements
To be considered for this role, applicants should have:
- Current NMC registration with a valid PIN.
- Previous experience working as a Substance Misuse Nurse, Drug and Alcohol Nurse, or similar specialist nursing role.
- Significant experience carrying out alcohol assessments and supporting community detoxification programmes.
- Competency in phlebotomy and interpreting blood test results.
- Experience administering vaccinations, including Hepatitis B.
- Excellent knowledge of substance misuse, harm reduction, BBV management, and health promotion.
- Strong assessment, clinical decision-making, and care planning skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across Norfolk.
- An Enhanced DBS or willingness to obtain one.
