We are looking for a Senior Procurement Specialist to join our successful Procurement team. This role is home based with travel to our office at least twice a month.
Role and Responsibilities
The Senior Procurement Specialist leads the Procurement team, overseeing end-to-end tendering, supplier negotiation, contract recommendations, and contract placement. Accountable for the quality, compliance, and consistency of the team's work, leading negotiations on higher-value or complex contracts directly, and driving continuous improvement in procurement processes and team performance.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Lead and manage the Procurement team, including Procurement Specialists, setting objectives, allocating workload, and maintaining performance standards.
- Oversee end-to-end tender processes (RFI/RFP/RFQ) across the team, ensuring consistency, compliance, and quality of output.
- Review and approve supplier negotiation outcomes and contract award recommendations prepared by the team, providing guidance on complex or high-value deals.
- Own procurement policy, process, and governance for the team, ensuring audit and compliance requirements are met.
- Monitor and report on team performance, tender pipeline, and contract placement against targets to the Head of Procurement & Supplier Management.
- Work with the supplier management team to escalate and resolve supplier and stakeholder issues that cannot be resolved by team members.
- Coach and develop team members, building tendering, negotiation, and commercial writing capability.
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce turnaround times across the team's tendering and contracting activity.
- Liaise with senior internal stakeholders on procurement strategy, market conditions, and contract performance.
Read and comply with the company Health & Safety Policy; taking reasonable care for the Health & Safety of themselves and others; co-operate with managers and other employees in fulfilling our objectives and statutory duties.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
Essential:
- Experience in procurement, tendering, or category management, including leading or coordinating a team
- Demonstrable experience negotiating supplier contracts, including higher-value or complex agreements
- People management experience, including setting objectives and developing team capability
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
Desirable:
- Experience using procurement or contract management systems
- Experience of energy markets (electricity/gas) and pricing mechanism
- Confident, professional communicator with strong influencing and negotiation skills
- Strong written skills for reviewing and refining commercial recommendations
- Track record of driving process improvement across a team
- Organised, able to manage multiple concurrent tenders and deadlines across the team
