Assistant Accountant – Farnham, Surrey
Salary: £36,000 – £44,000 per annum, depending on experience

About the role

As part of a planned strengthening of the finance and back-office function, our client is looking for an experienced Assistant Accountant to take ownership of day-to-day financial control and provide close operational support to the business owners following an MBO..
This is a hands-on role for someone who wants genuine ownership of a finance function rather than a small piece of a large one — you'll be the person the owners rely on to keep the numbers right, especially when the FD is not on site.
What you'll be doing
- Owning banking, cash control, nominal and purchase ledger oversight, with monthly reconciliations
- Managing supplier payment controls and invoice/purchase approval
- Assisting with preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual accounts
- Providing day-to-day office coordination and administrative oversight
- Acting as the primary point of contact for the business owners when they are off-site
What we're looking for
- Newly qualified accountant (AAT, ACCA or CIMA) or qualified through relevant experience
- Confident working independently and exercising sound judgement with minimal supervision
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and discretion — this role carries real financial responsibility
- Comfortable with accounting software; EPOS-linked reporting experience a plus
- Strong organisational skills and a clear communicator
- Retail or small business experience desirable but not essential
