Job Title: Autism Teaching Assistant

Contract: Full-time, Term-time (Temporary with the Opportunity to Become Permanent)
About the Role
We are seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and reliable Unqualified SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive educational setting in Oldham. In this role, you will support students aged 16–19 with Autism, providing both individual and classroom-based assistance to help them access learning, develop life skills, and gain confidence in a structured and inclusive environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin or progress a career in Special Educational Needs (SEN). While previous school experience is beneficial, it is not essential, as we welcome candidates with transferable skills and a genuine passion for supporting young people.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support for students with Autism throughout the school day
- Assist students during lessons, daily routines, and transitions between activities
- Support teachers with classroom activities and learning tasks
- Encourage the development of social, emotional, communication, and independence skills
- Adapt learning resources and support strategies to meet individual needs
- Work closely with teachers and the wider SEN team to deliver personalised support
- Help maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about supporting young people with Special Educational Needs, particularly Autism
- Patient, empathetic, resilient, and able to remain calm in a variety of situations
- A confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
- Able to build positive and trusting relationships with students
- Eager to learn and develop within an SEN environment
