RDG Engineering is looking for a Scaffold Design Engineer to join our growing team.
This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of scaffold engineering projects across multiple sectors, taking responsibility for the technical delivery of designs from concept through to completion. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, contractors and colleagues to deliver practical, safe and innovative engineering solutions while continuing to develop their technical expertise and project management skills.
The position is ideally suited to an engineer looking to broaden their experience by working on a wide variety of challenging projects, with opportunities to gain greater responsibility, develop client relationships and progress their career within a growing business.
The Role
Our workload spans a variety of sectors including heritage, rail, nuclear, commercial and infrastructure projects, offering exposure to technically challenging and often non-standard engineering problems.
Responsibilities will include:
· Engineering scaffold design solutions for a range of standard, complex and bespoke projects
· Preparing, reviewing and approving design calculations, drawings, technical reports and design risk assessments
· Considering buildability, sequencing and safe construction methods throughout the design process
· Managing multiple projects, maintaining project documentation and ensuring delivery to programme and quality standards
· Coordinating with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams, including site visits and client meetings
· Providing technical support, design checking and mentoring to engineering teams and junior engineers
· Developing and maintaining strong client relationships while supporting quotations, business development and commercial activities
· Contributing to operational improvements and technical best practice across the business
The successful candidate will be expected to work with a high level of independence while collaborating closely with colleagues across the business.
Requirements
Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- A minimum of two years' experience in scaffold design engineering
- A HNC or Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent industry experience demonstrating the required level of technical competence
- Knowledge of the relevant NASC Technical Guidance (TG) and Safety Guidance (SG) suite
- A sound understanding of relevant British Standards, Eurocodes and specialist technical documentation
- Knowledge of temporary works legislation and associated safety requirements
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, BricsCAD or equivalent CAD software
The following would also be advantageous:
- Previous practical or supervisory experience in scaffold erection
- Experience using 2D and/or 3D structural analysis software
- Experience working directly with main contractors
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or active progress towards Chartership

Salary dependent on experience £35k-£60k
