Hire Desk Manager – Tool & Construction Equipment Hire (Croydon Depot)

The role
Based at our Croydon depot, the Hire Desk Manager will play a key role in supporting the smooth day-to-day operation of the depot.
Working closely with the Head of Depot Operations and the wider depot team, you will manage hire enquiries, coordinate equipment availability, support customer accounts, and ensure the efficient administration of hires, off-hires, and deliveries.
This is a hands-on and varied role that requires strong communication, organisation, and customer service skills, along with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
Key responsibilities will include;
- Managing the day-to-day operation of the hire desk
- Handling customer enquiries, quotations, and hire bookings
- Coordinating deliveries, collections, and equipment availability
- Building and maintaining strong customer relationships
- Ensuring accurate processing of hires, off-hires, invoices, and related administration
- Supporting depot operations and working closely with drivers, fitters, and the wider depot network
- Assisting with stock control and fleet utilisation
- Maintaining high levels of customer service and operational efficiency
- Supporting compliance with company procedures and operational standards
- Contributing to process improvements and efficient ways of working
What we’re looking for
- Proven track record in a depot or branch (tool, plant or access industry, construction supply, or logistics preferred).
- A solid work history showing commitment, integrity, and progression.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, confident liaising with customers, colleagues, and suppliers.
- A customer-focused and professional approach
- Good IT skills and administration skills
- A positive attitude, problem-solving mindset, and a good sense of humour.
- The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- A proactive attitude and willingness to support the wider team
