Meet Your Manager: Freya Rayment
The VAVE Test Engineer is responsible for planning, executing, and reporting validation activities for Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) projects, ensuring that cost and value improvement initiatives are delivered without compromising quality, reliability, or regulatory compliance.
Reporting to the VAVE Manager and based in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, this role focuses on developing and validating technical cost reduction solutions. You will work closely with design engineers and technical specialists to define verification strategies, required evidence, and validation plans.
You will also contribute to design reviews and DFMEA activities to ensure robust, reliable designs, supporting the delivery of innovative solutions aligned with VAVE objectives.
In this role, a typical day will look like:

Developing and delivering validation plans for VAVE proposals, aligned with project requirements and engineering standards.

Defining test scope, success criteria, and acceptance requirements, ensuring alignment with DFMEA, design reviews, and risk assessments.

Leading and executing functional, environmental, reliability, and durability testing to validate design changes against performance, quality, and safety standards.

Providing technical input on risk, validation requirements, and cost–benefit trade-offs during project development.

Analysing test data, drawing evidence-based conclusions, and producing structured reports to support approvals and regulatory engagement.

Collaborating cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Procurement, and Manufacturing to validate VAVE opportunities.

Driving continuous improvement in test methods, validation processes, and data integrity.

Supporting the standardisation of validation approaches across VAVE and technical PPV activities.
The essential requirements of the job include:

Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related discipline).

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in product validation, testing, or quality engineering, with knowledge of DFMEA and risk-based validation methods.

Experience in VAVE, cost reduction, or product improvement programmes (desirable but not essential).

Good understanding of project delivery, risk management, and structured engineering processes.

Knowledge of test fixturing and associated engineering principles.

Proactive, self-motivated, and solution-focused mindset with a strong drive to deliver results.

Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.

Willingness to be onsite a minimum of four days per week.

Appreciation of manufacturing processes such as sheet metal fabrication, injection moulding, and composite manufacturing.
