Teaching Assistant – Student Support Base (SEND) – Mainstream School
Looking for a rewarding full-time role supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within a mainstream school? We are recruiting a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming Student Support Base, providing targeted support for pupils with a range of additional needs while helping them access mainstream learning and school life.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about inclusion and making a positive difference to young people's education and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support pupils with SEND within the Student Support Base and, where appropriate, in mainstream classrooms.
- Deliver targeted one-to-one and small group interventions to help students achieve their academic, social and emotional goals.
- Assist the class teacher and SEND team in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and monitoring student progress.
- Foster a positive, inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes independence and confidence.
- Support students with communication, emotional regulation and social interaction, adapting strategies to meet individual needs.
- Help manage behaviour positively, using consistent approaches and school policies.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and wider pastoral staff to ensure pupils receive the support they need.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and contribute to review meetings where appropriate.
- Support students during school activities, educational visits and enrichment opportunities.
Requirements:
- Experience supporting Primary or Secondary-aged pupils with SEND is highly desirable.
- Experience working with children with autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH or moderate learning difficulties would be advantageous.
- A patient, empathetic and positive approach to supporting young people.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.
- Relevant qualifications (such as CACHE Level 2 or 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning) are beneficial but not essential.
- A valid DBS check or willingness to undergo one.
- Knowledge of strategies such as Makaton, PECS, Zones of Regulation or Team Teach is desirable but not essential.
