Wild Thang are Merchandise Experts who have been established since 1996. We are a dynamic forward-thinking organisation looking for an individual with transferable skills along with the right attitude to join our successful team.
The screenprinter will instil best working practices within the Screenprint Department, showing efficiency, sharing knowledge and always looking for ways to improve the department. You will hold a broad understanding of Company/departmental challenges and nurture this understanding throughout all team members to encourage positivity and to build positive working relationships with other departments.
Job Responsibilities
Screen Services
- Cleaning screen with high pressure and low pressure water spray and associated chemicals
- Cleaning screens with use of dip tank
- Operating the screen drying unit
- Coating of screens using trough with even coverage
- Exposing screens with posi film with the exposure unit
- Registering film onto screens to expose on multi-colour jobs
- Using registration jig lining up crop marks
Post Exposure Screen Care
- Touching in pin holes on exposed screen and re-drying in cabinet
- Applying Blue Filler to outside stencil to screen and re-drying in cabinet
- Application of tape to screen outside stencil to prevent any other possible leaks
Technical Knowledge/Skills
- Selecting correct screen mesh to get best results to suit designs
- Selecting best inks to use to suit a design eg Plastisol, underbase grey, low bleed, discharge, water based etc
- Choosing best print process, eg. Manual, Auto
- Best print order on multi coloured designs
- Selecting best squeegee rubber for best results
- Setting up/registering screens onto manual carousel
- Setting up/registering screens onto auto carousel
- Mixing ink pantone plastisol using the Wilflex mixing system
- Mixing discharge ink with activator
- Selecting dryer temperature/belt speed to suit the inks/garments being used
- Mixing applying adhesive to print platens
- Spot cure temperature adjustments for garment e.g. less seconds/ increase height on spot curer
- Changing masking tape on platens
- Use of ink additives nylon
- Use of ink additives soft hand base
- Use of ink additives flo thinner
- Using the spot blast gun
- Wearing correct PPE
Automatic Screen Printing
- Fitting screens to heads and registering 1/multi colour designs
- Fitting squeegee/flood bar onto each active head
- Adjusting print/flood pressure on each head
- Adjusting print/flood speed on each head
- Adjusting flash time on auto from start, to running when platerns heat up
- Setting print quantity on the screen
- Start an auto run
- Stopping an auto run
- Monitoring progress during print run
Gas Dryer Operation
- Knowing the full start up/close down procedure for the gas dryer
- Troubleshooting any problems with the dryer, eg on start up
- Setting temperature/belt speed on the dryer
Post Print Checks
- Checking if ink is fully cured
Screenprint Consumables
- Keeping updated stock levels
- Identifying best re-order points for low stocks
- Line of communication for re-ordering
- Order checking standards
- Order workflow
- To always observe printing and pressing operation to detect defects in print/application that indicate machine malfunction and notify Line Manager of malfunction urgently
- To perform preventative maintenance and clean machines on a daily basis
- To understand the specific operational requirements for Key Contracts and implement best working practices around them
- To effectively ensure all customer deadlines are met
- To notify the sales contact and/or Line Manager at the earliest opportunity if a deadline can’t be met to discuss reasons, solutions and to implement a plan of action for completion
- To look for and highlight efficiency improvements
- To work within the Health and Safety requirement’s to ensure a safe working environment
- To hold an understanding of Company/departmental challenges that will assist in building positive and effective working relationships throughout the Company

- As Wild Thang’s production facility is so diverse at times you may be required to work in other departments where demand is higher

7am-4pm Mon-Thu; 7.30am-3.30pm Fri - 41 hrs per week.
20 days holiday per year plus bank holidays.
