About the opportunity
An exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist or Clinical Neuropsychologist to join Aspire Therapeutic Services, a specialist therapeutic service for trauma and attachment, neurodisability and neurodivergence across the lifespan. The post sits within our expanding Neurodivergence & Disability pathway and offers a varied, clinically rich caseload spanning intellectual disability, autism and ADHD, acquired brain injury, neurological and neurodegenerative conditions.
You will join a friendly, supportive multidisciplinary team that highly values psychology, with a well-structured role, regular consultation from a Consultant Clinical Psychologist specializing in Neuropsychology, and genuine opportunities to develop specialist skills — including in clinical neuropsychology. The post will be particularly attractive to psychologists wishing to consolidate broad clinical experience while developing a specialist career in neurodisability or neuropsychology.

Main duties of the role
- Specialist assessment: provide highly specialist psychological and neuropsychological assessment, based on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources — including standardised neuropsychological test batteries (e.g. WAIS-V, WISC-V, WMS-V, D-KEFS, NEPSY, RBANS), self-report/informant rating scales, structured observation, and semi-structured interviews with clients and collateral.
- Adapted practice: adapt assessment methods, materials and analysis where cultural norms may not exist, for clients with communication difficulties, sensory needs or cognitive impairment, so that assessment remains valid, accessible and person-centred.
- Formulation and care planning: develop complex neuropsychological formulations and care plans for interventions based on an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s difficulties, drawing on more than one explanatory model and refining hypotheses as work progresses.
- Therapeutic intervention: deliver individual and group interventions to a neurodivergent client base, drawing on evidence-based approaches (e.g. CBT, ACT, DBT, EMDR and trauma-focused therapies, attachment-based and systemic interventions, Positive Behaviour Support), adapted to each client’s cognitive and communication needs.
- Neurorehabilitation: contribute specialist psychological input to goal-oriented rehabilitation for people recovering from acquired or traumatic brain injury, and other neurological conditions — including cognitive rehabilitation, adjustment-focused therapy, behaviour support and family work — alongside occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy and medical colleagues.
- Neurodegenerative disease: provide comprehensive, person-centred care planning for people living with dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases across the course of the illness: baseline and repeat neurocognitive assessment to monitor change, contribution to differential diagnosis, consideration of mental capacity, post-diagnostic support, formulation-led approaches to behaviours of concern, and psychoeducation and support for families and carers.
- Professional autonomy: exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients on your caseload, working within professional guidelines and the overall framework and policies of the service, under clinical consultation from the Lead Consultant.
- Consultation, training and service development: provide specialist advice, guidance and consultation to multidisciplinary colleagues, contributing directly to clients’ formulation and care plans; offer teaching and training to professional and non-professional carers; and contribute to audit, service evaluation and service development.
About you
Essential:
- Doctoral-level training in Clinical or Counselling psychology accredited by the recognized national body in your country of training (e.g. BPS, APA, PCSAS, CPA, APAC).
- Full, current registration or licensure as a psychologist with your national or state regulator — for example HCPC (UK), a state board of psychology (USA), a provincial College (Canada) or AHPRA (Australia) — and eligibility for registration with CPAM (Council for Professions Allied with Medicine) in the Cayman Islands.
- Demonstrable experience of administering and interpreting neuropsychological assessments, including well-developed skills in clinical psychometrics and in adapting practice for people with cognitive/communication difficulties and wide ranging sociocultural backgrounds.
- Post-qualification experience within disability services and/or specialist settings such as intellectual/learning disability or autism teams, brain injury or neurorehabilitation services, memory or older adult services, or chronic health conditions.
- Post-qualification training and experience in at least one evidence-based therapeutic approach (e.g. CBT, ACT, DBT, EMDR or other trauma-processing therapy, attachment-based therapy, systemic parent–child intervention, Positive Behaviour Support).
- Experience of multidisciplinary team working, a significant understanding of evidence-based practice, and well-developed skills in communicating complex, technical and clinically sensitive information — orally and in writing — to clients, families, carers and professional colleagues.
- Willingness to pursue further specialist clinical training to enhance and extend your clinical skills.
Desirable:
- Further training or a developing specialism in clinical neuropsychology — we will actively support post-qualification training in this area.
- Experience of lifespan neurocognitive assessment and post-diagnostic pathways, mental capacity assessment, or supervising assistant or trainee psychologists.
