Billion Media · London (office-based, with on-the-ground reporting) · Up to £35,000 depending on experience
About us
We're Billion Media, a digital marketing and media company specialising in the legal sector — particularly personal injury and medical negligence. We're known for SEO-led campaigns that combine data journalism, investigative research and real-world reporting to create stories that earn coverage in national and regional press.
Over the years we've built strong relationships with leading media outlets across the UK. We're headquartered in Liverpool and now growing our London operation — which is where you come in.
The role
This is a hybrid role that sits right between the newsroom and the marketing team. You'll do real investigative journalism — digging into data, chasing down stories, getting out into the field — with an eye on digital performance, because the stories you uncover are what win our clients press coverage and visibility.
You'll be based in London, working across our offices in Barnet, Hanover Square, Upper Woburn Place, Croydon and Camden. It's office-based, but the job also takes you out into the city to cover real events as they happen.
What you'll be doing
Investigative journalism & research
- Researching topics across personal injury and medical negligence in depth.
- Submitting and managing Freedom of Information (FOI) requests to surface exclusive data.
- Analysing datasets to spot trends, patterns and newsworthy angles.
- Developing original story ideas that fit our brands and campaigns.
Reporting across London
- Keeping an eye on live events and breaking news across the city, especially anything relevant to our sector.
- Heading out to locations when it makes sense (accident scenes, for example) to gather first-hand insight and visual content.
- Capturing strong photography and on-the-ground context to bring stories to life.
Content & PR
- Writing press releases, reports and pitches that are ready to land.
- Pitching stories to journalists, editors and publications.
- Building and looking after relationships with media contacts.
- Earning high-quality coverage and backlinks for our brand websites.
Social & digital
- Working with our social team to turn stories into content that travels.
- Helping amplify coverage and reach across platforms.
- Supporting local content, including Google Maps video uploads and optimisation.
Campaigns
- Brainstorming and running PR campaigns alongside the wider team.
- Owning projects from first idea through to publication and outreach.
- Bringing creative ideas that lift how our campaigns perform.
Why you'll like it here
- You'll make real news, not just content. Your work will appear in national and regional media, with you behind it.
- You'll be out in the field. This isn't a desk-only job — you'll cover real events and build stories from first-hand insight.
- You'll have creative freedom. Pitch your own investigations and campaigns, and see them through from idea to publication.
- You'll grow fast. We're a collaborative, fast-moving team with genuine support and room to progress. If digital PR and SEO are new to you, we'll teach you.
Salary & benefits
- Salary up to £35,000, depending on experience.
- 28 days' annual leave (including bank holidays), increasing with length of service.
- Access to our London office locations.
- Company pension.
- Real career development and progression opportunities.
What we're looking for
Must-haves
- At least 6 months' experience in journalism, PR or investigative research.
- Some experience with FOI requests, data-led stories or campaigns.
- Strong writing — you can produce press-ready content.
- A journalism degree or NCTJ qualification (or equivalent).
- Happy to travel across London for reporting when needed.
Nice to have
- Experience covering breaking news or live events.
- Photography skills, especially for news or on-location work.
- A knack for finding the story inside a dataset.
- An understanding of SEO and digital PR (we can train you on this).
- Good organisation and the ability to juggle several projects at once.
- A proactive streak and the confidence to pitch your own ideas.
Is this you?
You think like a journalist but care about digital impact. You spot stories other people walk past. You're as comfortable out in the field as you are at your desk, and you want to see your work published, shared and actually making a difference. You thrive in a fast-paced, idea-driven environment.
