Final-Year Physiotherapy Student / Graduate Development Opportunity
Clinical experience, mentorship and pathway to a paid maternity cover role
March Physiotherapy Clinic – March, Cambridgeshire
We are looking for an enthusiastic final-year Physiotherapy student or newly qualifying Physiotherapist who would like to gain regular, meaningful experience within a busy private physiotherapy clinic.
This is an ongoing voluntary placement from autumn 2026 through to approximately March/April 2027, with the opportunity to interview for an anticipated 12-month paid maternity cover Physiotherapist position once qualified and HCPC registered. There may also be potential for ongoing work within the clinic beyond the maternity cover period.
We appreciate that the employment market for newly qualified Physiotherapists is challenging at the moment. We also recognise that asking someone to give their time voluntarily needs to offer something genuinely valuable in return.
The purpose of this opportunity is therefore development, experience and mentorship. We want to give someone the chance to spend time within an established clinic, work alongside experienced clinicians and build the practical skills and confidence that can sometimes be difficult to gain between university and your first Physiotherapy role.
What You’ll Gain
The placement can be tailored to your interests and stage of training, with opportunities including:
- MSK Physiotherapy – Exposure to a varied caseload and support with assessment, clinical reasoning, treatment planning and progressive rehabilitation.
- Strength and Conditioning – Mentorship in exercise prescription, progressive loading, strength testing and the application of strength and conditioning principles within rehabilitation and return to sport.
- Manual Therapy – Practical exposure and mentoring in joint mobilisation, hands-on treatment and how manual therapy can be appropriately incorporated alongside active rehabilitation.
- Physio-Led Pilates – Regular exposure to our Pilates classes, with opportunities to develop your knowledge and practical skills and work towards further Pilates training and eventually teaching physio-led Pilates.
- Strong for Life – Experience within our popular strength-based classes, including programming and adapting resistance exercise for different ages, abilities and clinical presentations.
- Sports Rehabilitation – Exposure to later-stage rehabilitation, running and sporting injuries, testing and return-to-sport progression.
- Neurological Rehabilitation – Opportunities to observe and gain experience with some of our neurological patients alongside our predominantly MSK caseload.
- One-to-One Mentorship – Regular opportunities to discuss patients, clinical reasoning, treatment choices and career development with experienced clinicians.
- In-House Teaching and CPD – Involvement in clinical teaching, practical sessions and team learning.
- Private Practice Experience – An opportunity to understand how a busy private clinic operates and develop the communication, organisation and professional skills needed to work confidently in this environment.
We want this to be a genuine two-way arrangement. Your time is valuable, and in return for giving some of it to us, we want you to leave the placement with significantly more clinical experience, practical knowledge and confidence.
Commitment and Flexibility
This is intended to be an ongoing development opportunity rather than a short period of work experience, ideally continuing through to spring 2027.
We would recommend around two days per week where possible, as regular attendance will provide much better continuity and allow you to gain more from the clinical exposure, classes and mentorship available.
However, we completely appreciate that additional job may be necessary. Hours can therefore be flexible around university commitments, placements and paid employment, and we are happy to discuss what is realistic for the right person.
The Opportunity from Spring 2027
One of our Physiotherapists is expected to begin maternity leave around March/April 2027, creating an anticipated paid maternity cover role for approximately 12 months.
Provided they have successfully completed their Physiotherapy degree and obtained HCPC registration, the person undertaking this placement would have the opportunity to apply and interview for the maternity cover position.
The placement does not guarantee appointment to the paid role, but our hope is to find someone now whom we can get to know, mentor and develop over the coming months and who could ultimately be a great fit for our team.
There may also be potential for ongoing employment after the maternity cover period, depending on clinic requirements and how the role develops.
Who We’re Looking For
This could be a great opportunity for someone who:
- Is in the final year of a Physiotherapy degree or is newly qualified and awaiting, or has recently obtained, HCPC registration.
- Has a particular interest in MSK Physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
- Is keen to develop skills in strength and conditioning, Pilates and manual therapy.
- Wants more regular practical and clinical exposure alongside university.
- Is enthusiastic, personable and keen to learn.
- Wants to build confidence and clinical reasoning before moving into independent practice.
- Can ideally commit to the placement on an ongoing basis through to spring 2027.
- Is potentially interested in joining our team in a paid capacity once qualified and registered.
Applicants will be invited to interview for the placement. We’re looking for someone who fits well with our team and, equally importantly, someone we genuinely feel we can support, mentor and invest in over the coming months.
Interested?
Please apply with your CV and a short introduction telling us a little about yourself, where you are in your Physiotherapy training, your particular clinical interests and what you would hope to gain from the opportunity.
