As part of Durham Scouts, we serve as the headquarters for Durham Scout County and welcome schools, businesses, groups, and individuals from across the North East and beyond to our beautiful 19 acres of fields and forest.

Job Overview: As a Part-Time Maintenance Operative, you will play a key role in carrying out practical maintenance and repair work to keep Moor House Adventure Centre safe, functional, and welcoming for all visitors. This role involves both reactive repairs and planned preventative maintenance.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out day-to-day maintenance and repairs across the site, including buildings, equipment, and grounds.
- Complete planned preventative maintenance tasks, such as routine servicing and inspections.
- Undertake grounds maintenance, including grass cutting, hedge trimming, and general landscaping.
- Support project-based site improvements and upgrades as directed by the Centre Manager.
- Ensure maintenance activities are carried out safely and in accordance with relevant regulations.
- Identify and promptly address maintenance issues to prevent disruption to operations.
- Assist with setting up and dismantling facilities for events and activities.
- Support occasional site operations during events, which may include evening or weekend working.
- Manage tools and equipment, ensuring they are stored safely and maintained in good working order.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- Practical experience in maintenance, repairs, or a relevant trade (e.g. joinery, plumbing, electrics) is desirable.
- Ability to carry out a wide range of general repair and maintenance tasks.
- Experience operating grounds maintenance equipment, including tractors, is desirable.
- Valid UK driving licence (essential).
- Knowledge of safe working practices and willingness to follow site safety procedures.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- Physical capability to undertake manual work, including lifting and working outdoors in all weather.
- Relevant qualifications are desirable, but training will be provided for the right candidate.
