We are looking for a compassionate, organised, and proactive Outreach Worker to join our team and support unpaid carers across Central Bedfordshire. This rewarding role involves working within local communities to identify and engage with carers who may not yet be accessing support, helping them understand their rights and available services, and connecting them with practical, emotional, and financial support.
The Outreach Worker will build strong relationships with community organisations, GP surgeries, libraries, voluntary groups, faith organisations, and other local partners to increase awareness of unpaid carers and ensure they receive timely information, advice, and support. The role combines community outreach, one-to-one support, partnership working, and the delivery of information sessions and awareness activities across Central Bedfordshire.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and engage with unpaid carers across Central Bedfordshire through community outreach activities and local partnership working.
- Provide information, advice, and practical support on carers’ rights, benefits, assessments, health and wellbeing, and available local services.
- Support carers to access appropriate services, assessments, respite opportunities, peer support, and community resources.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with GP practices, pharmacies, hospitals, schools, employers, voluntary organisations, community groups, and other stakeholders.
- Attend community events, health fairs, carers’ awareness events, and outreach sessions to promote Blue Sky Carers Support services.
- Deliver presentations, information sessions, and awareness-raising activities to professionals, community groups, and partner organisations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of all contacts, referrals, and support provided in line with organisational policies and GDPR requirements.
- Monitor outreach activity and contribute to reporting on outcomes, engagement levels, and service impact.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire to ensure seamless support for carers.
- Promote equality, diversity, inclusion, and carers’ rights at all times.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, training, and ongoing professional development.
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience of working with vulnerable adults, carers, families, or within community support, health, social care, or the voluntary sector.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and engage with a wide range of people and communities.
- Knowledge of the challenges faced by unpaid carers and an understanding of health, social care, and community support services.
- Ability to work independently, manage a varied workload, and prioritise effectively.
- Experience of partnership working and community engagement.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and the ability to maintain accurate electronic records.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to confidentiality, safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for travel across Central Bedfordshire (or the ability to travel independently across the area).
