Scena Pro Ltd is looking for a hands-on Head Scenic Artist to lead our scenic art department, producing distinctive sets, props and staging for television, film, theatre, exhibitions and live events.

The Role
As Head Scenic Artist, you will lead a team of scenic artists and painters across several projects. This hands-on position combines scenic art and specialist finishing with team leadership, workload planning and paint-shop management.
You will work closely with clients, designers, production managers, makers and carpenters to ensure every project meets the creative brief, quality standards and deadline.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, organise and support a team of scenic artists and painters
- Plan and manage workloads across multiple projects
- Paint and decorate sets, props and staging
- Interpret drawings, designs, samples and client specifications
- Produce scenic, decorative, textured, aged and specialist finishes
- Liaise confidently with clients, designers and production managers
- Recommend appropriate materials, techniques and finishes
- Monitor quality and maintain consistently high standards
- Manage paint stock, materials and departmental ordering
- Maintain an organised, efficient and safe paint shop
- Travel internationally for selected projects when required
About You
We are looking for someone with:
- Extensive experience as a Scenic Artist, Senior Scenic Artist, Head Scenic Artist or Scenic Painter
- Previous experience leading or supervising artists or painters
- Excellent scenic painting, decorating and finishing skills
- Strong knowledge of scenery, materials and construction processes
- A genuine passion for theatre production and creative scenic work
- Confidence communicating directly with clients and production teams
- The ability to manage competing priorities and demanding deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work
- A reliable, self-motivated and flexible approach
- The ability to commute daily to our Croydon workshop
Experience in theatre, television, film, exhibitions or museums would be beneficial. Specialist decorative or faux-finishing skills, a scenic art qualification and a full UK driving licence would also be advantageous but are not essential.
