Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursery Cook to prepare nutritious and appealing meals for children in our nursery setting. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food preparation, a good understanding of food safety standards, and experience working in a kitchen environment. This role involves creating balanced meals that meet dietary requirements while ensuring a safe and hygienic kitchen environment. The Nursery Cook will play a vital part in supporting the health and wellbeing of our young children through quality meal provision.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals suitable for children, ensuring nutritional value and variety
- Follow specific dietary guidelines and accommodate any allergies or special dietary needs
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area in accordance with food safety standards
- Assist with meal planning and portion control to minimise waste
- Ensure all food is stored correctly and safely, adhering to hygiene regulations
- Monitor food freshness and expiry dates, discarding any unsafe ingredients
- Support the overall cleanliness of the kitchen, including washing dishes, utensils, and equipment
- Collaborate with nursery staff to coordinate meal times and special dietary requests
Requirements
- Proven experience in food preparation, cooking, or culinary roles, preferably within a childcare or nursery setting- though not essential.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene management
- Experience with meal preparation for children, including understanding of nutritional requirements
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment while maintaining high standards of cleanliness
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Previous experience working in a restaurant or catering environment is desirable but not essential
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- This is a year round role, with approximate hours of 9am-1pm Monday - Friday
- A DBS check will need to be completed prior to commencing the role.

Pay: From £12.71 per hour
