Green Energy Solar is recruiting an experienced Solar Operations Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day planning and delivery of our solar PV and battery installation programme.
You will control the installation schedule, coordinate employed teams and subcontractors, confirm that projects are ready before work begins and make sure customers receive clear and timely communication.
This is a hands-on operational leadership role. We need someone who can bring structure to a busy installation programme, anticipate problems, make decisions and hold people accountable for agreed dates and actions.
You will work closely with our Electrical Qualified Supervisor, who will retain responsibility for electrical safety, technical standards, competence, supervision and compliance. You will own the operational delivery of the work.
Essential experience
To be considered for this position, you will need:
- Proven experience managing installations, field operations, construction delivery or a similar multi-project operation.
- Experience owning a live schedule for multiple field-based teams.
- Experience coordinating employed teams, subcontractors, materials and external suppliers.
- Experience in solar, renewable energy, electrical installations, heating, construction or an installation-led home-improvement business.
- Strong customer communication and escalation-management skills.
- The confidence to challenge unrealistic dates and prevent projects being scheduled before they are ready.
- Experience using scheduling, CRM, job-management or project-management systems.
- A full UK driving licence.
- The ability to work from Cardiff and travel regularly to installation sites.
The role
As Solar Operations Manager, you will own the operational journey from the point a project is handed over for delivery through to installation, commissioning, customer handover and completion of outstanding remedial work.
Your priority will be to ensure that every installation has the right people, materials, information and supporting services in place before a date is confirmed.
Key responsibilities
- Own and maintain the master installation schedule.
- Plan installation capacity across employed teams and subcontractors.
- Allocate work according to skills, location, project requirements and availability.
- Confirm that surveys, designs, approvals, materials, scaffolding, labour and access arrangements are in place before installation.
- Identify scheduling conflicts, resource shortages and project blockers before they affect delivery.
- Chair regular operational and installation-planning meetings.
- Coordinate with sales, surveying, design, procurement, warehousing, finance and the Electrical Qualified Supervisor.
- Monitor live installations and resolve operational problems as they arise.
- Manage delayed, aborted or partially completed installations.
- Coordinate snagging, remedial work and return visits.
- Ensure customers receive accurate information about installation dates, preparation requirements, changes and delays.
- Take ownership of operational customer escalations.
- Monitor the performance, attendance, productivity and reliability of installation teams and subcontractors.
- Maintain accurate project information within company systems.
- Introduce practical readiness checks, standard processes and operational controls.
- Produce a concise weekly report covering performance, capacity, blocked projects, risks and required actions.
- Investigate recurring delays, cancellations, defects and complaints and implement lasting improvements.
- Promote safe working practices and escalate electrical, technical or compliance issues to the Electrical Qualified Supervisor.
Working with the Electrical Qualified Supervisor
The Operations Manager and Electrical Qualified Supervisor will work closely together, with clearly separated responsibilities.
You will own:
- Installation scheduling.
- Capacity and resource planning.
- Operational project readiness.
- Coordination of installation teams and subcontractors.
- Coordination of materials, scaffolding and site access.
- Customer installation communication.
- Delivery dates and operational priorities.
- Delay, cancellation and remedial-work planning.
- Operational systems, reporting and process improvement.
The Electrical Qualified Supervisor will retain responsibility for:
- Electrical safety and technical standards.
- Supervision of electrical work.
- Electrical competence and workmanship.
- Inspection, testing and certification oversight.
- Electrical quality and compliance.
- Technical guidance and escalation.
- Electrical defects and corrective technical actions.
- Relevant scheme-provider assessments and technical records.
You will not be expected to replace or overrule the Electrical Qualified Supervisor. An electrical qualification would be advantageous but is not essential for this position.

Your performance-related bonus will be linked to agreed operational and customer-service measures.
About you
You will be a calm, organised and decisive operational manager who is comfortable taking responsibility in a fast-moving environment.
You will naturally look ahead, identify what could prevent an installation from succeeding and make sure the necessary action is taken before the issue reaches the customer.
You will be comfortable holding colleagues and contractors accountable while maintaining constructive working relationships across the business.
You will also understand the difference between an operational decision and a technical or electrical-compliance decision and will work collaboratively with the Electrical Qualified Supervisor.
Desirable experience
The following would be beneficial:
- Direct experience managing solar PV or battery-storage installations.
- Knowledge of domestic or commercial renewable-energy installations.
- Familiarity with MCS processes and installation documentation.
- Familiarity with DNO applications and project dependencies.
- Experience coordinating scaffolding, equipment deliveries and site access.
- Experience introducing operational KPIs, checklists and standard operating procedures.
- A relevant project-management, operations or health and safety qualification.
