Highway Weed Control Operative
Fixed-term contract until November 2026, with the potential for further work subject to future contract awards.
S.H. Goss & Co. Ltd has recently secured new Highway Weed Control contracts with Stevenage Borough Council and East Hertfordshire District Council and is looking to recruit experienced Highway Weed Control Operatives to join our team.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in delivering a high standard of work and is happy working independently for much of the day. If you enjoy being active while you work and prefer being out on the network rather than based in one location, we'd like to hear from you.
The Role
Working across Stevenage, East Hertfordshire and surrounding areas, your duties will include:
- Applying herbicides to highway weeds using pedestrian spraying equipment.
- Following planned treatment routes and schedules.
- Working independently while maintaining high standards of safety and productivity.
- Completing daily work records using a mobile device.
- Carrying out routine vehicle and equipment checks.
- Working safely around traffic, pedestrians and other road users.
- Ensuring all work complies with current legislation and company procedures.
Essential Requirements
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
- Ability to use a smartphone or tablet to record completed work.
Desirable
- PA1 & PA6 spraying certificates (preferred).
- Previous highway weed control experience.
- Experience working for local authorities or highway maintenance contractors.
- Plant and weed identification knowledge.
- Experience using pedestrian spraying equipment.
