About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Registered Manager to lead a specialist 3-bed respite service in Wembley, while also overseeing the operations of our co-located Day Care Service and client transport provision.
This is a senior operational role for someone who understands what excellent care looks like and can combine strong CQC compliance, people management and day-to-day service leadership.
You will hold responsibility as the CQC Registered Manager for the respite service and work closely with two Senior Coordinators who manage the day-to-day delivery of the respite and day services.
We would welcome applications from experienced Registered Managers as well as strong Deputy Managers who have the knowledge, leadership experience and qualifications to progress into a Registered Manager position.
What You'll Be Responsible
ForCQC & Respite Service Management
- Act as the CQC Registered Manager for the 3-bed respite service.
- Maintain compliance with CQC regulations, Fundamental Standards and relevant health and social care legislation.
- Lead the service through CQC inspections, audits and quality monitoring.
- Oversee referrals, pre-admission assessments, risk assessments and person-centred care plans.
- Ensure safe and appropriate staffing levels at all times.
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, medication management, record keeping and incident management.
- Ensure the respite service operates safely during busy weekend periods.
- Drive continuous improvement with the aim of maintaining a Good or Outstanding CQC service.
Day Service Operations
- Oversee the effective day-to-day operation of the Day Care Service.
- Support the Senior Coordinator to maintain high standards of care, activities and engagement.
- Monitor attendance, capacity and service quality.
- Ensure people using the service receive safe, person-centred and meaningful support.
- Manage escalated concerns from families, professionals and funding authorities.
Client Transport
- Oversee the safe and efficient operation of client transport.
- Ensure transport arrangements meet the needs of people using the service.
- Work with coordinators and drivers to maintain reliable schedules.
- Monitor transport safety, documentation and relevant compliance requirements.
- Ensure smooth transitions between home, transport, day care and respite services.
Leadership & Staff Management
- Line-manage the Senior Coordinator – Respite Service and Senior Coordinator – Day Service.
- Provide regular supervision, appraisal, coaching and performance management.
- Develop a positive culture of accountability, teamwork and high-quality care.
- Ensure effective communication between care staff, coordinators and transport teams.
- Oversee safer recruitment, induction and onboarding.
- Monitor mandatory training and staff development.
- Support workforce planning and ensure appropriate staffing across the services.
Quality, Performance & Operations
- Carry out regular quality and compliance audits.
- Monitor incidents, complaints, safeguarding concerns and areas for improvement.
- Track service occupancy and operational performance.
- Work closely with the Managing Director on budgets and cost control.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and service quality.
- Provide regular reports covering compliance, staffing, occupancy and operational performance.
About You
Essential
You should have:
- Experience within a CQC-regulated health or social care service.
- Previous experience as a Registered Manager, or substantial Deputy Manager experience with the ability to step into registration.
- Strong working knowledge of CQC regulations, inspections and quality requirements.
- Experience managing and developing care staff and senior team members.
- Experience with care planning, risk assessments, safeguarding and quality assurance.
- Strong organisational and operational management skills.
- Confidence managing competing priorities across different services.
- Good IT skills and experience using electronic care management systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Flexibility to oversee the respite service during weekend operations when required.
Qualifications
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care/Health and Social Care, or equivalent.
We may also consider candidates who hold Level 4 and are actively working towards Level 5, provided they have suitable management experience.
Desirable
It would be advantageous if you have:
- Experience overseeing both respite and day services.
- Experience managing services for people with additional or complex support needs.
- Experience overseeing client or community transport operations.
- Experience working with local authorities and commissioners.
- Knowledge of tendering or commissioned social care services.
- Experience managing service budgets and occupancy.
- Previous experience leading a service through a CQC inspection.
Working Pattern
This is a full-time, 37.5-hour-per-week position based in Wembley.
The respite service operates at weekends, so some flexibility will be required to provide management oversight and respond to operational issues when necessary.
This does not mean you will routinely work every weekend, but the Registered Manager must be able to provide appropriate leadership and oversight when required.
Salary
£38,000 – £40,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
