Wildlife Rehabilitator
Full-Time | 35 Hours per Week | Fixed-Term (6 months initially, with option to extend on mutual agreement)
Join the team at Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue!
Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue is one of Scotland's busiest wildlife rehabilitation centres, caring for thousands of injured and orphaned wild animals each year. We are currently looking to recruit two enthusiastic Wildlife Rehabilitators to join our dedicated team.
This is an exciting time to become part of the charity. Under new management, Hessilhead is undergoing a period of significant development, with ambitious plans to upgrade and refurbish existing facilities, construct new enclosures, and continue improving the centre for both our wildlife patients and the people who care for them.
If you are passionate about wildlife, enjoy working as part of a supportive team, and thrive in a varied and rewarding environment, we'd love to hear from you.
The Role
Working as part of our small and dedicated team, your duties will include:
· Providing daily husbandry and care for a wide variety of native Scottish wildlife, including preparing specialist diets, feeding patients, cleaning hospital areas and enclosures, and monitoring patient welfare.
· Administering medication under direction where appropriate.
· Assisting with admissions, releases and rescues when required.
· Maintaining high standards of hygiene, biosecurity and animal welfare.
· Supporting volunteers and students during placements.
As a small charity, everyone helps wherever needed, making this a varied role where no two days are ever the same. Previous experience in wildlife rehabilitation or a relevant animal care role is essential. Experience in seal rehabilitation would also be highly desirable and would be a valuable addition to our team, though not essential.
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Has a genuine passion for wildlife rehabilitation and conservation.
- Is hardworking, reliable and positive.
- Works well both independently and as part of a team.
- Has excellent communication skills.
- Is flexible and willing to work weekends and public holidays on a rota basis.
An interest in DIY, maintenance or practical repair work would also be a real advantage. As we continue to improve and expand the centre, we are looking for team members who are happy to lend a hand with enclosure construction, repairs and general site improvements alongside their wildlife rehabilitation duties.
What We Offer
- The opportunity to work with an incredible variety of Scottish wildlife.
- A friendly, supportive and passionate team.
- A role where you can genuinely make a difference each day.
- The chance to be part of an exciting period of growth and development as Hessilhead continues to invest in its future.
If you are looking for a rewarding role where your work has a direct impact on wildlife conservation and rehabilitation, we would love to hear from you.
