Join our dynamic team as a Computer Science Mentor (SEND), where you will play a vital role in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to develop their computer science skills. You will work closely with educators, therapists, and families to create engaging, tailored learning experiences that promote growth and independence.
Responsibilities
- Deliver personalized tutoring sessions in computer science, focusing on coding, programming, and digital literacy for children with SEND
- Collaborate with teachers and specialists to adapt lesson plans that meet individual learning needs and goals
- Support children with speech therapy and communication challenges through engaging tech-based activities
- Assist in developing and implementing behavior management strategies to ensure a positive learning environment
- Provide mentorship and encouragement to foster confidence, curiosity, and resilience in learners
- Conduct assessments of students’ progress and provide feedback to the team for continuous improvement
- Maintain accurate records of student activities, progress reports, and lesson plans
Skills
- Strong understanding of computer science concepts including coding languages, algorithms, and digital tools
- Experience working with children, particularly those with SEND or in early childhood education settings
- Knowledge of speech therapy techniques, applied behavior analysis, and special education practices
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with children, parents, teachers, and multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to manage classroom behavior positively and implement behavior management strategies
- Experience tutoring or mentoring young learners in technical subjects or physical education is advantageous
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, and adaptability to support diverse learning needs including toddler care and preschool experience
