Overview
We are seeking a motivated and reliable Kitchen Assistant/Cafe Worker to join our team. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about food service and culinary arts to gain valuable experience in a dynamic environment. The successful candidate will contribute to the smooth operation of our café in Truro city centre, ensuring high standards of food safety and customer satisfaction. Previous catering, cooking, or restaurant experience is desirable but not essential, as training will be provided.
Duties
- Assist with meal preparation and food service, ensuring all dishes meet quality standards
- Support kitchen operations by preparing ingredients and maintaining cleanliness of work areas
- Serve customers efficiently and courteously, taking orders and handling transactions where applicable
- Follow food safety regulations and hygiene protocols at all times
- Restock supplies and organise ingredients to ensure smooth workflow during busy periods
- Assist with cleaning duties, including washing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment
- Support the team in maintaining a welcoming environment for customers
- Contribute to the overall organisation of the café, including setting up tables and clearing after service
Qualifications
- Previous experience in catering, cooking, or restaurant environments is advantageous but not mandatory; training will be provided for suitable candidates
- Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices is desirable
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Good organisational skills and a positive attitude
- Excellent communication skills and a friendly demeanour when serving customers
- Flexibility to work shifts as required, including weekends or busy periods if necessary

This position is for 30-35 hours per week working over 5 days, Tuesday - Saturday
