Job overview:
We’re seeking a proactive Senior Financial Controls Analyst to join our AXA UK Risk team. You’ll lead elements of our Internal Financial Control (IFC) testing programme, providing guidance on control design and effectiveness, and overseeing remediation of control issues. Working across the business, you’ll help ensure financial reporting risks are managed, issues are addressed, and governance bodies receive clear, insightful reporting. This is a great opportunity to apply your expertise in internal controls, influence stakeholders, and evolve the financial controls framework.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead components of the IFC testing programme, including process, IT, and report controls to ensure accurate financial statements.
- Coordinate remediation and impact assessments for control issues, tracking progress against action plans.
- Review peers’ testing work, providing coaching and support to junior team members.
- Oversee projects to evaluate impacts on the IFC framework and support process and control design.
- Provide second-line challenge on risk and control adequacy, ensuring coverage is appropriate and effective. Identify opportunities to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of controls through automation, analytics, and improvements to control monitoring.
- Assist in assessing operational risks to ensure relevant capital considerations are included.
- Promote risk and control awareness through guidance, challenge, and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including external auditors, to ensure a consistent understanding and delivery of financial control requirements.
Work arrangements:
At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) from December 2026. Away from home means attending the office, visiting clients or attending industry events. We’re also happy to consider flexible working arrangements, which you can discuss with Talent Acquisition.
Your skills & experience:
- Experience testing business processes and controls, end user computing, and financial reports from an audit, accounting, risk, finance, or controls background.
- Strong knowledge of internal controls, SOX, and financial reporting risk, including control design and effectiveness testing.
- Understanding of risk and control practices within a regulated financial services environment.
- Ability to identify control gaps, assess remediation plans, and evaluate impacts on financial statements and operational risk.
- Excellent analytical skills, storytelling ability to explain control issues clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, including governance committees.
- Proven experience influencing and challenging stakeholders, with a growth mindset.
- Able to review work, coach colleagues, and promote technical consistency.
