Apex Education Services is a dedicated provider of 1:1 tailored tuition for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). As an approved exam centre for private candidates, we focus on removing learning barriers and helping every child reach their full potential.
We are currently seeking professional, passionate, and dedicated SEN Tutors to join our team. The role involves providing high-quality educational support to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and mental health challenges such as anxiety and any other special educational needs.
Role Summary
As an SEN Tutor, you will work with children on a 1:1 basis, primarily in their homes or agreed local settings within Medway and Kent County. You will deliver tailored lessons aligned with the UK National Curriculum, focusing on subjects such as English and Maths up to Functional Skills Level 2 or GCSE.
Each session lasts a minimum of three hours, with some sessions extending up to five hours a day. Therefore, maintaining professional conduct, understanding professional boundaries, and fostering a respectful learning environment are essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 Tuition: Deliver structured and personalised lessons to children with ASD, ADHD, and mental health needs, primarily at their homes or agreed local settings.
- Curriculum Delivery: Teach subjects such as English and Maths up to Functional Skills Level 2 or GCSE, in line with the UK National Curriculum.
- Adapt Lessons: Modify teaching methods and materials to meet individual learning needs and styles.
- Report Progress: Provide clear, detailed daily reports after each session, outlining the student’s progress, engagement, and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate: Work closely with parents, carers, and professionals involved in the student’s education.
- Foster a Positive Environment: Create a supportive and encouraging atmosphere to build the student’s confidence and abilities.
- Travel: Be prepared to travel to students’ homes or local agreed locations across Medway and Kent County.
Requirements
- Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in any field.
- Experience: Prior experience working with children with ASD, ADHD, or other SEN needs is desirable but not essential.
- Curriculum Knowledge: A strong understanding of the UK National Curriculum and SEN best practices.
- Enhanced DBS Check: A valid enhanced DBS check is mandatory for this role.
- Professionalism: Commitment to maintaining professional conduct and clear boundaries when working in students’ homes.
- Flexibility: Willingness to travel for tuition sessions and adapt to students’ individual needs.
- Availability: Must be available to start as soon as possible.
Desirable Skills
- Experience teaching both English and Maths up to Functional Skills Level 2 and/or GCSE.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents/carers, and other professionals.
- Creativity, empathy, and patience in delivering engaging and effective lessons.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are desirable, as travelling to students' locations may be required.
