Overview
Bespoke Stairlifts is entering a new period of significant growth. Having secured a major new contract, we are scaling our rail manufacturing operation considerably. We are now looking for an experienced Welding Quality Engineer to make this role their own — reviewing and improving our processes, aligning our customers’ standards with our own, and continuously pushing and driving standards to be better.
The Role
As our named Responsible Welding Coordinator, you’ll translate our customer’s requirements into a fully embedded welding QMS aligned with ISO 3834 and ISO 14731. You’ll develop the procedures, SOPs and controls needed, install them across our rail manufacturing operation, and change the mindset of the department to own them. Our rails are fabricated from bent steel tube, and welding quality sits at the heart of what we produce.
Key Responsibilities
- Implementing a welding QMS built around our customer’s requirements — practical, embedded and audit-ready
- Developing and adapting welding procedures (PWPS, WPQR, WPS) and SOPs that reflect real shopfloor conditions
- Qualifying and supporting welders, maintaining competence records and coaching for consistency
- Running in-process surveillance and leading non-conformance investigations through to root cause and corrective action
- Owning dimensional and profile quality control across tube forming, fabrication and welding
- Preparing and maintaining the business for customer, certification body and third-party audits
- Enforcing compliance — ensuring procedures are adopted, embedded and sustained across the operation
What We’re Looking For
A quality-first mindset is essential. You’ll need a proven background in welding quality — building and maintaining systems, not just inspecting — with demonstrable experience of implementing procedures and SOPs in a similar manufacturing environment. Working knowledge of ISO 3834 and ISO 14731 is required. CSWIP 3.1 is strongly preferred, and an IWE or IWT qualification is a real advantage, though not essential where a strong proven track record can be demonstrated.
Strong candidates will come from regulated, safety-critical manufacturing. Rail, lifting equipment or structural steel fabrication are ideal backgrounds, though any disciplined fabrication environment with robust welding compliance will be considered.
The Opportunity
This is a rare chance to build something from scratch, at a pivotal moment in the company’s growth. If you have the drive to make it happen and the experience to make it stick, we’d love to hear from you.
