Highclere Castle near Newbury is a busy heritage visitor attraction well known as the location for the popular Downton Abbey TV series.
We are seeking a dedicated and efficient Kitchen Porter to join our hospitality team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in maintaining cleanliness and organisation within the kitchen environment, ensuring smooth daily operations. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a professional culinary setting, supporting chefs and kitchen staff in delivering high-quality service to our guests.
Duties
- Assist with basic food preparation and organisation of ingredients
- Wash, clean, and sanitise all kitchen utensils, equipment, and surfaces to uphold hygiene standards
- Support chefs with cooking tasks as required, including basic food assembly and plating
- Ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen area throughout the shift, including floors, workstations, and storage areas
- ● Operate the commercial dishwasher and wash large pots, pans, and chef utensils by hand.
● Clean and sanitise all food preparation areas, work surfaces, walls, and floors.
● Collect and safely dispose of kitchen rubbish, food waste, and recycling.
● Help unload deliveries, rotate stock, and keep food storage areas organised.
● Assist the kitchen team with basic food preparation tasks
● Follow the kitchen food hygiene, health and safety, and chemical handling (COSHH) regulations at all times.
- Support serving staff during busy periods by clearing tables and assisting with light duties as needed
Requirements
- Previous experience in a restaurant, hotel, or hospitality environment is advantageous but not essential
- A hardworking, proactive attitude with excellent reliability.
● Ability to work efficiently and effectively
● Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Knowledge of food preparation, cooking, and kitchen safety standards is desirable
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to various tasks within the kitchen setting
- A positive attitude and team-oriented approach are essential for success in this role

Pay: £25,600.00-£26,300.00 per year
