ROLE: Shipping Analyst
REPORTS TO: Global Shipping Manager
The Shipping Analyst is a core operator within Sotheby's global shipping network, responsible for analyzing transportation performance and driving targeted, data-backed improvements across cost, service, and reliability.
This role goes beyond reporting. It diagnoses where and why the network underperforms, quantifies the impact, and supports the execution and tracking of initiatives that improve speed, consistency, and client experience. Working across US, EMEA, and APAC, the role partners closely with Operations, Carriers, and Technology teams, while operating under the direction of the Global Shipping Manager to continuously improve the end-to-end logistics network.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Performance Analytics & Root Cause Diagnosis
- Own global carrier performance scorecards (weekly and monthly) across inbound and outbound flows
- Analyze transit times, cost, service levels, and exceptions to identify root causes of delays and variability
- Segment performance by lane, carrier, region, and service type to isolate issues and opportunities
- Translate analysis into clear, actionable insights with quantified business impact
Continuous Improvement & Implementation
- Proactively identify and propose high-impact transportation improvement opportunities
- Support the execution of prioritized initiatives in partnership with the Global Shipping Manager
- Contribute to initiatives such as last-mile communication enhancements, carrier platform improvements, and process simplification
- Track results post-implementation and ensure initiatives deliver measurable performance gains
Global Program Tracking
- Maintain a centralized, structured view of all global shipping initiatives
- Ensure clear visibility on timelines, ownership, and success metrics
- Proactively flag risks and support resolution to keep initiatives on track
Data & Tooling Development
- Partner with Data and Product teams to define requirements for dashboards and reporting tools
- Translate operational needs into clear, actionable product and data requirements
- Support testing and validation of new tools and enhancements
- Improve data capture, integrity, and consistency across transportation workflows
Cross-Functional Problem Solving
- Work across Client Experience, Supply Chain, and Finance to resolve operational issues
- Support carrier-related escalations with a structured, data-driven approach
- Contribute to broader efforts to improve the end-to-end delivery experience
IDEAL EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES
- 1–2 years of experience in an analytical or operational role (logistics, consulting, or similar).
- Strong analytical capability; advanced Excel required, experience with data visualization tools a plus.
- Ability to break down complex problems, structure analysis, and drive to clear conclusions.
- High ownership mindset with a bias toward execution and follow-through.
- Strong attention to detail and comfort working with large datasets.
- Clear, concise communicator able to translate analysis into action.
- Interest in global operations, logistics networks, and continuous improvement.
