About Labl.it
Labl.it is a fast-growing SaaS company transforming food safety compliance for commercial kitchens.
Our software helps thousands of kitchens across the UK produce compliant food labels quickly and accurately, helping businesses save time while improving food safety.
We're now looking for our first in-house Software Engineer to help shape the next stage of our product.
About the role
This is an opportunity to become the first internal software engineer at an ambitious startup.
You'll work directly with the founders to design, build and improve features across our entire platform. You'll have real ownership over product development and a direct influence on how our technology evolves.
We already work with an experienced software development agency who will continue to manage infrastructure, production support and provide architectural guidance. Your focus will be building great software, shipping features quickly and making use of modern AI development tools to accelerate delivery (primary focus of new role is to use AI development process to increase pace of delivery).

Some areas of the platform also include native Swift integrations.
What you'll do
- Develop new features across our web platform and mobile application.
- Improve existing functionality and user experience.
- Fix bugs and investigate production issues.
- Work closely with the founders to prioritise product development.
- Collaborate with our external development agency on larger technical projects.
- Use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity while maintaining high code quality.
- Contribute ideas that improve our product and engineering processes.
We're looking for someone who
- Has 2–5 years of commercial software development experience.
- Experience in production environments managing large databases
- Has strong React and modern JavaScript or TypeScript skills.
- Is comfortable learning new technologies when required.
- Writes clean, maintainable and well-tested code.
- Can work independently and take ownership of features.
- Enjoys working in a startup where priorities can change quickly.
- Uses (or is excited to use) AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT to improve software development.
Nice to have
- React Native experience.
- Laravel or PHP experience.
- AWS experience.
- Mobile app development experience.
- Experience shipping SaaS products.
