The Byre Theatre is looking for a creative, enthusiastic and highly organised Audience Development Intern to join its busy and professional team.
The Byre is a theatre and venue in St Andrews, part of the University of St Andrews. It hosts a varied and vibrant programme of University, amateur and professional touring productions, including theatre, dance, musicals, music, opera, festivals, screenings and events.
This is an exciting opportunity for a current University of St Andrews student who is interested in developing a career in marketing or the arts. Working within the Byre’s Programme and Marketing department, the Audience Development Intern will gain practical experience of promoting an exceptionally busy programme of performances and events and engaging with a wide range of audiences.
Supporting the Programme and Marketing Officer, the Marketing Intern will help to create and distribute engaging marketing communications, with a particular focus on social media. They will assist with campaigns, press activity, print and digital communications, audience evaluation, launches, stakeholder events and press nights. The role will also involve working with visiting companies and colleagues across the Byre to gather and share accurate information about productions and events.
We are looking for someone with:
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
- A demonstrable interest in developing a career in the arts and/or marketing
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- An interest in social media and creating effective digital communications
- The ability to work collaboratively and manage a range of tasks
- At least three months’ experience of working in the arts sector at any level
- The ability to work flexibly when required, including attending occasional events, launches and press nights
This fixed-term, term-time role offers the successful candidate valuable hands-on experience within a professional theatre and a supportive opportunity to develop practical skills, industry knowledge and professional networks.
