Supports the Retail Manager in the day‑to‑day running of Redgate’s Loughborough charity shop, ensuring excellent customer service, strong retail standards and a welcoming environment for donors, customers, staff and volunteers.

Job Purpose
Provide hands‑on support to the Retail Manager by helping maintain high retail standards, delivering friendly customer service, processing donations and stock, and ensuring the shop remains clean, organised and welcoming.
This role directly contributes to Redgate Farm Animal Sanctuary’s income generation and supports the charity’s animal welfare mission.
Key Responsibilities
Shop Operations & Customer Service
- Shop presentation — Keep the shop clean, tidy and welcoming, supporting the manager’s daily operational standards.
- Customer service — Provide friendly, helpful and professional service to all customers.
- Till operation — Process sales accurately and follow cash‑handling procedures.
- Shop floor support — Restock, rotate and present items to maintain strong merchandising standards.
Stock Processing & Donations
- Donation handling — Receive donations politely, follow sorting guidance and ensure safe storage.
- Stock preparation — Price, steam, hang and prepare items for sale.
- Stock rotation — Support the manager in rotating stock and presenting seasonal/promotional items.
- Recycling streams — Assist with rag collections and recycling processes.
Gift Aid Support
- Gift Aid promotion — Encourage donors to sign up and explain the benefits.
- Gift Aid compliance — Follow correct procedures when processing Gift Aid donations.
Volunteer & Team Support
- Team communication — Work positively with volunteers and staff, supporting a friendly team culture.
- Training support — Help new volunteers learn basic shop tasks under the manager’s direction.
Safety, Compliance & Standards
- Health & safety — Maintain a safe shop environment and report hazards or incidents promptly.
- Safeguarding awareness — Maintain awareness and escalate concerns to the manager.
- GDPR compliance — Handle donor and customer information appropriately.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Customer service skills — Friendly, confident and helpful with the public.
- Organisation — Able to keep the shop floor tidy and manage tasks efficiently.
- Teamwork — Works well with staff and volunteers.
- Stock handling — Comfortable sorting, pricing and preparing stock.
- Basic administration — Able to follow simple processes and use tills or digital tools.
